Executive Summary


Overview: The intent of this brief outline is to serve as a foundation for formal discussions regarding the engagement of our company services for the benefit of        “ Your Company here” in exporting products into a specific region. While the outline is not specific in regards to region, and indeed we have extensive expertise in the Middle East, I would suggest West Africa as a starting point, more specifically The Gambia, West Africa. Gambia is a prominent member of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African Countries), which is a regional economic cooperative of fifteen countries (See attached map and statistics). The population of this economic block is over 200 million. Many of the countries do not have coastal access, and are therefore dependent on coastal countries with efficient ports for trade. In effect, Gambia is a safe harbor where regional traders come to purchase goods for re-sale. Gambia is a political stable, safe, English speaking, beach front country.


                   You are in possession of numerous documents attesting to my experience, connections, and ability to organize and implement business plans. I believe that through my connection, expertise and experience, I can successfully introduce your product into the largest remaining global economic region with the most upside and the least competition. Indeed Africa is China thirty years ago and India twenty years ago. Africa is an excellent opportunity for smaller, bold, growth oriented companies with a global vision to establish and expand markets for their products. It strikes me that the best legal arrangement for us based on our conversation will be a formal consulting agreement that protects and benefits both parties. As an entrepreneur by nature, and an employer of many, I am a firm believer in a compensation program that rewards both efforts and results. With this said, I propose a four phase contract which is renewable by agreement from both parties after each phase, and is tied to specific execution of the agreed upon goals for that particular phase. In the fourth and final phase, my preference would be to establish some commission based exclusive agency agreement with a non-compete clause on both sides. In effect, I would service the clients that were established through the marketing campaign, and my compensation would at that point be tied directly to sales.


                    In conclusion, the goal and intent is to enter into a formal agreement that is beneficial to both parties. The natural sequence of progress in summary is as follows:

a.       Presentation and discussion of the proposal.

b.      Agreement on compensation model.

c.       Drawing and execution of consulting agreement.

d.      Formally begin project.

I. PHASE 1 (15 Days for completion)


Company analysis:

a.       Understanding your corporate goals.

b.      Understand your company process.

c.       Analyze your targeted products and service from a competitive perspective.


Marketing research:

a.       Identify a geographic / economic regional marketplace.

b.      Identify the consumption patterns of the target product.

c.       Determine current wholesale and retail prices for your product in the market.

d.      Identify the key players (Banks, buyers, distributors…).

e.       Determine customs and shipping costs.

f.       Identify any barriers to trade such as political instability, price ceilings, tariffs, protective legislation…

g.      Prepare an outline of the formal marketing plan, complete with advertising budgets for approval.

h.      Identify third party professionals (Legal, accounting, tax consultants).

II. PHASE 2 (15 days for completion)

Marketing plan:          


a.       Design an advertising campaign that will “Brand” your specific product in the minds of the consumers and wholesale Buyers.

b.      Design a plan that will make direct contact via phone or Internet with major. players in the industry (Wholesale buyers, retail buyers…).

c.       Design a plan that increases your Internet hits through designing an               e-marketing plan that funnels inquiries directly to your web page.

d.      Design a plan that identifies and makes contact with the relevant government officials (Trade Minister, Customs officials, and Central Bank officials).

e.       Design a plan that informs the relevant local banks and financial institutions about your company, the products and potential financial needs (Letters of Credit, third party escrows, facilitating transfers of capital…).

a.       Receive a professionally prepared marketing plan that can be directly imported into the existing company business plan, and executed immediately.


III. PHASE 3 (30 days for completion)


      Marketing plan implementations:


a.        Implement an advertising campaign that will include newspaper ads, flyers, and possible signage.

b.        I will make direct contact with the major players in the industry with the intent of explaining the product, price points, and taking market share.

c.        Implement an e-marketing campaign that runs banner ads on relevant sites, moves “Your Company Website” up on the search engine inquiries, and start targeted email advertisement to the Players in the industry.

d.       Make direct phone contact with relevant government officials in search of referrals and ease of trade.

e.        Make direct contact with all relevant financial institutions regarding financial needs of Legends.

a.       Receive the benefits from the implementation of the marketing plan which are as follows:

1.      Increased sales.

2.      Increased Internet hits.

3.      Branding of “Your company name here”  name and logo in the minds of the consumers and whole sale buyers.

5.      Receive the blessings from the relevant government officials.

6.      Begin to engage regional financial institutions which will aid in the execution of the sales, and future expansion into the region.


IV. PHASE 4 (Target date for arrival is October 1st; I expect to be in country for 15 days).



a.       Travel to the region (With a company representative if you desire) as an exclusive agent of “Your company name here”

b.      Organize an information seminar / dinner for all of the relevant parties.

c.       Personally visit all relevant parties privately.

d.      Execute purchase / sell agreements with relevant Buyers.

e.       Visit with local and global banks and make whatever financial arrangements are required to execute transactions.

f.       Coordinate shipping, storage and distribution of said product as may be required.

a.       In effect, you will receive all of the benefits of establishing a formal office in the region, without the expense, man power requirements, management… These benefits are as follows:


1.      Direct, local and personal communication with local Buyers.

2.      Direct personal communication with banks, and professional consultation as it relates to the proper financial instruments needed (Letters of Credit, back to back Letters of Credit, and escrow accounts).

3.      On the ground supervision of the arrival and distribution of products imported by “Your company name here”


Discussion points as it relates to establishing a compensation model


  1. I prefer that the compensation in coordination with clear goals.
  2. In the case of Phases 1, 2 & 3, these are necessary foundation items for success, and consequently, the results can only be measured by the completion of the stated objectives.
  3. In the case of Phase 4, in addition to organizing the information dinner, meeting potential clients as well as those established through the marketing plan, my intent is to execute actual contracts. As such, I believe the compensation for this phase should be some combination of a reduced fixed amount plus a percentage of sales generated.
  4. Beyond Phase 4, I believe the compensation should be a commission structure based on sales, with some moderate monthly retainer to cover expenses relative to maintaining client contact, corporate contact, and increasing sales.


           Finally, consider every phase optional, and the terms negotiable. While we consider this model to be a proven recipe for success, we are willing and able to adjust the basic model to fit individual needs.
